2025 Giving clients engineering certainty in a high stakes year

2025 was a high-stakes year, defined by delivery, investment, and momentum. Our clients demanded engineering certainty in an environment where complexity, risk, and logistical challenges continued to grow. Through disciplined execution, measured growth, and the trust placed in Harlyn, we solved some of our most complex engineering and logistical challenges to date.

Engineering-led Transportation: De-risking the critical path

Throughout 2025, Harlyn became the “go to” partner for clients where the margin for error was zero. Across offshore energy, marine construction, and subsea sectors conducting operations across 6 continents, our clients faced the ever-common pressures of tight deadlines, unfamiliar technical challenges, and high-stakes safety requirements.  We were able to step in – not just as a contractor – but to close the gap between engineering and execution. By taking ownership of entire scopes, we eliminated the “interface risk” that usually plagues complex projects.

The Power of our “Mob Facility”: A unique mobilisation advantage

In 2025, we fundamentally changed the mobilisation game with the acquisition of our South Harbour Mobilisation facility at the Port of Blyth – a unique facility that creates a permanent operational base purpose-built for mobilisations and project execution.

The facility solves the “fragmentation” problem, clients can now co-locate their teams in our renovated on-site offices, working side by side with our operations to maintain direct oversight without scrambling for temporary space or working around port constraints. For us, it provided a controlled environment in which to test and commission assets under strict protocols before they were deployed to project sites. It also offered a ready-made operational hub, enabling mobilisations to occur faster, more safely, and with fewer moving parts to manage.

Investment in asset and capability: Giving better control of the outcome

We believe that you cannot guarantee a result if you do not control the tools. That is why we invested in Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) to take greater control of project delivery and reduce reliance on external suppliers last year. Owning critical assets meant we can guarantee availability, eliminate coordination delays with third parties, and deliver tighter programme control for our clients. These assets are now embedded across live projects in the UK and EU, guaranteeing delivery regardless of tight mobilisation windows and unforgiving weather.

People, Skills and the Next Generation

People remain central to everything Harlyn does, so investing in engineering talent has been a key focus over the past 12 months. We have strengthened the team with two graduates from Newcastle University and welcomed our first apprentice, working alongside the Energy Central Campus, bringing our total headcount to 30. By combining engineering, project management, and on-site delivery expertise, we bring together fresh technical thinking and seasoned site experience – allowing us to move faster from design to execution without compromising detail or safety. We are currently recruiting for engineers to join our team.

Regional Roots, Global Reach

Our new Rotterdam office, established in May to provide boots-on-the-ground mobilisation support within Europe’s key offshore hubs, enables us to respond locally, reduce transit times on multi-country projects where timing and proximity are critical and coordinate more effectively with local ports and suppliers. It also ensures clients are supported by a partner with first-hand understanding of regional logistics challenges.

Back in Blyth, we announced plans to relocate to a new headquarters in one of the town’s most iconic and historic landmarks: the former Port of Blyth Grade II listed Harbour Commissioners Office. This maritime heritage cements our position as a key stakeholder in the region’s industrial and maritime ecosystem.

The building is currently undergoing full restoration, bringing new life to a long-dormant site and transforming it into a dynamic centre for professional activity and strategic oversight. Once complete in 2026, it will provide a professional home base to support the company’s growth, offer a collaborative workspace for our expanding teams and create a welcoming environment for clients to meet and collaborate.

Looking Ahead

2025 demonstrated our ability to deliver at scale, invest with purpose and grow without losing focus on what matters most: safe, practical and reliable project execution. As we move into 2026, with live projects underway in the UK and Europe, and plans to expand our team, we remain committed to supporting clients wherever their projects take us.

Working closely with our stakeholders, including the Energy Central Campus and Energi Coast North East Cluster, we continue to combine capability, experience and innovation to deliver with confidence. Our preparations for the fourth annual seminar at Wylam Brewery and participation in national and international conferences reflect our ongoing dedication to knowledge sharing and industry engagement.
